Gil Chimon

Chair

Gil has worked in the voluntary and community sector for over 13 years. As Director, Gil was part of the leadership team that led Sussex Aids Centre through a successful merger with Terrence Higgins Trust (THT), creating Terrence Higgins Trust South, which became the Trust’s flagship regional base. As Regional Director Gil was responsible for the provision of a range of high quality health promotion, training and social care services. He was part of the team which assisted THT to become Social Care Charity of the Year 2000.
Moving to the North West of England Gil took up the role of Director at Voluntary Sector North West. Working closely with the Board of Trustees, Gil further developed the independence of the network and strengthened its ability to develop the broader network of networks. He also maintained communication and representation with key strategic regional bodies.
Gil has completed a full time MBA (Public Sector Management). As part of his dissertation he worked with Government Office for Yorkshire and Humber and Involve Yorkshire & Humber (then known as Yorkshire and Humber Regional Forum) to research voluntary and community sector leadership development in the region.
Gil is now Director (North) for Alzheimer's Society, which works to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. His work continues to build on his extensive knowledge of severe and enduring mental ill health issues.
Gil is a passionate advocate of the voluntary and community sector (VCS) and its ability to deliver high quality needs led and innovative services.
