Wanted: experts in common sense

Healthwatch info sessions in Yorkshire

Healthwatch, the new consumer champion for health and social care, is looking for people to have a say on their local health services.

Involve is collaborating to run events in York, Sheffield and Bradford, aimed principally at new volunteers. You don’t need medical knowledge to be a Healthwatch volunteer– just common sense and a desire to influence issues such as:

  • Are older patients properly treated in hospital?
  • Do students and young people get the health advice they need?
  • How should health services be arranged for rural residents?
  • Are the drugs and treatments that patients want available?

Healthwatch volunteers will get:

  • Opportunities to influence decisions about health services
  • Valuable experience in community work and volunteering
  • The chance to represent the interests of friends, family and community
  • Training opportunities in community leadership

Healthwatch-Communities Involved

Healthwatch-Communities Involved is a new partnership of four national charities. It is compiling a map of groups and individuals in England who are ready to help shape their services.

The partnership will work with local groups to connect with the people on the map, ways to get involved with the local Healthwatch and information on opportunities such as workshops and free training for volunteers. Sign up here to make sure you are part of this network.
