Celebrating Adult Learners Week

Dawn Mann

Highly Commended

Dawn started out as a Youth Training Scheme (YTS) apprentice in 1984 working as a clerical officer and eventually gaining Dawn Mann employment in the X-ray office. In 2002 the NHS began to deliver training for all of their staff, and Dawn completed an NVQ Level 3 in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Support. She then went on to the Assistant Radiographic practitioner course at Bradford University. On completion, Dawn decided to continue onto the BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography course at Bradford University where she qualified earlier this year. Dawn was an outstanding student and has now secured the post of radiographer in the Medical Imaging Department at Barnsley Hospital.

Dawn says 'this experience has helped my son in his own studies – he has seen how much determination and hard work it has taken for me to achieve my goals.' Dawn has also presented the story of her career to a local secondary school – she hopes it will inspire the pupils there to study hard.

Yorkshire & Humber Adult Learners' Week is coordinated by Involve Yorkshire & Humber. Adult Learners' Week Awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the life-changing learning done by people in communities all over Yorkshire and Humber, and the central role of the voluntary and community sector in supporting learning.
